[REVIEW] TTMIK Level 2 Book Review

Posted by Carrie Ang 1 comments Links to this post
여러분 안녕하세요...
Ever wanting to learn a new Language - Korean Language in particular? It wouldn't be necessarily difficult to master a foreign language if you have interest in learning it. For me, in particular have only been officially learning the Language after my trip back from Korea (which is around April this year). Only after 5 months, I'm able to read Hangul by my own *well that's in slow pace right as I'm super busy with work, Only able to study 1-2 hours per week*. The best part of learning Korean is that I'm able to watch my fav Drama, Movies & variety shows with less English subs. Not to mention K-pop songs! You guys out there has no idea how torturing it would be for k-pop fans to listen to those songs & not understand a single word of it. ㅋㅋㅋ

Okay let's cut the crap & get down to the actual informative part. To learn Korean, you have to be able to read the Hangul characters first. Once you've the hang of it, that's where your journey starts. There are many ways you can engage either by taking classes, self-taught reference books/materials, online-buddy system/penpal..the list goes on. But, I've found TTMIK to be the best (refer as TalkToMeInKorean). TTMIK is an non-profitable organization that teaches Korean for absolutely FOC. All thanks to the passionate teachers from TTMIK. Their lessons are easy enough to grasp with a total of 9 Levels. (Materials & podcasts are available for downloads) The best part is that all the TTMIK 선생님은 are very interactive with the audience. With regular updates from their websites, FB pages & twitter.

With their recent Level 1 & Level 2 book launch, the reviews for it has been encouraging. The TTMIK Level books are of the lessons from their online lessons as well. BUT why buy the book when you can download all the lessons for free??
Well it's a way to support your favourite 선생님 for all their hard work!

My Twins?

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
Me for one have never met people that have the same birth date as mine. But, there's always possibilities for everything! Would you believe such thing as fate, when you found out that someone out there was born on the same day, same month, and same year as you? Well, if its only up till that point, at a certain time I would have agreed with. But to my amazement that, how could you also find someone that was also born in the same place, work under the same department and till an extend of sitting at the same area where our little cubicles are; and neither did one of our lives being cross before all these years?! Talk about deja-vu...
Haha...that would be the one day I won't be forgetting any time soon.
This year, some of our colleague celebrated our birthday together. Oh well, since our birthday was reveal some time back; we are already known as the department's twins! Haha..never in my life would I've thought of having a sister...twin sister?! keke... Thanks for the cake!! 고마워

Since then, it seem like we are having so much luck in finding people (within our own department) with the same Birth date as us. There's one, well not exactly twin but younger by 1 year (still same birthdate). And today, during lunch we found out that we are having another twin??! Haha...same day, same month and same year! The whole gang just LOL! What else can we do..... Four people sharing the same Birthday?? Did our boss picked their candidates based on date of birth? Hahaha...that possibility is way out of hand as all of us are not under the same boss. Our bosses should treat us all next year!! What a coincidence..하하하!!!

We Grow Old Together

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
Reminiscing the good old days..even if it's only been a year since we last met. Still, time flies without us noticing. And even if we do realise it...life still goes on no matter what. Appreciate those around you, we may fight at times but at the end of the day we still have each other. That's what friends are for! =)

Well I'm getting a little emo ryte?! Talk about drama...ishh..lol...just thought of them somehow when I stumble across the wedding pictures my friends took of us a year ago. Wow...really am still now..digesting that some of them are really married! We are no longer JUST students right?? I miss those times thou..Am more free to express oneself than stuck in this cruel working-society-full-of-everyday-burden-and-responsibilities kind of thoughts. But, can't complain much here...everyone has their own life. GOD wrote and guide us thru differently. Just have faith in HIM. That's all HE ask for.

Well...I did attend both of my course mates wedding. And frankly speaking, it's my first time attending a Indian-style wedding. Where they had their simple-yet warm ceremony at the local Indian Temple here in Penang. Both the bride & groom just look fabulous!
Enjoying the lovely atmosphere there..
At the reception wedding...Aren't they cute together..keke.. ^^
 It's a simple yet a very heart-warming wedding!

Later, the following week, I had also attended another of my close buds wedding in KL. And to tell you... wow how grant of a wedding is this - Bollywood-style!! 최고의!!!

An unprofessional cam-whoring time with my hp..What a blurry pic is this!! Ishh...How I wish I own a DSLR cam X(
Me with my girlfriend Ranee the Queen! =D
Before the ceremony start...Look how pretty these lights are!
Here's the bride & groom! Gorgeous couple ain't they! Fun people to hang out too! XD
Being the King & Queen for the grant day!
I just simply love this shot!~♥
A very unpro shots! Hahaha....
Us Batch 4 with one of our lecturer...yea one of them is actually a lecturer of mine. And a nice guy too... Well All of them are the best! Fun guys to hang out with! The whole gang Jjang~!
The funny part is that we just immediately let down of the utensil & say Cheeeeseee within a sec...lol
Look how good it turn out to be...keke...
The whole Batch 4 Gang! well...at least...its not the complete gang but the event was a blast!

A warm wish to both the couples from the bottom of the heart! Wishing you happiness in life~!♥

9 Soothing DIY Facial Masks

Posted by Carrie Ang 2 comments Links to this post
Oh well..this is not something I would read nor write about as I myself rarely go for facial. But seemingly Koreans girls (or guys?!) have one of the best skin trait in the world, I just figure that's due to the diligent them of having facial pack done every single day..well as frequent as it may seem I think. But, well for an average us, I don't think I can afford having facial done that often as it cost a tonne! Korean products in Korea are damn cheap thou! hmph! But not so elsewhere....

With this...why not just treat your skin to an equivalent face pack "homemade-style"...you could enjoy the beauty of it without the guilt feeling in the pocket! Recently read this article which came to me as a "shocker".  Who knows BANANAs can be used as face mask?? Yea, told you so..this is so not-my-cup-of-tea...I usually don't just sit there and browse thru ways to beautify myself..well I'm just plain lazy I think! haha...

Let's cut thru all the craps..and get down to what's important...

9 Soothing DIY Facial Masks

Banana (바나나)

Who needs Botox when you have bananas? That’s right: You can use a banana as an all-natural face mask that moisturizes your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 medium banana.

Vinegar (사과식조)

Using vinegar as a skin toner dates back to the time of Helen of Troy. And it’s just as effective today. After you wash your face, mix 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar with 2 cups water as a finishing rinse to cleanse and tighten your skin. You can also make your own facial treatment by mixing 1/4 cup cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water. Gently apply the solution to your face and let it dry.

Personally, I think this brand is the best! I love the taste of it too.

Milk (우유)

Oh well not exactly on your left! hahaha..but it simply taste de-li-ci-ous! A-must-try item in Korea! Banana Milk!
Here’s another way to give yourself a fancy spa facial at home. Make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the mixture, let dry completely, then rinse with warm water. Your face will feel fresh and rejuvenated.

Oatmeal (오트밀)
If you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up that will leave you feeling and looking better, give yourself an oatmeal facial. Combine 1/2 cup hot — not boiling — water and 1/3 cup oatmeal. After the water and oatmeal have settled for two or three minutes, mix in 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 2 table-spoons honey, and 1 small egg white. Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your face, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse with warm water. (Be sure to place a metal or plastic strainer in your sink to avoid clogging the drain with the granules.)

Mayonnaise (마요네즈)
Why waste money on expensive creams when you can treat yourself to a soothing facial with whole-egg mayonnaise from your own refrigerator? Gently spread the mayonnaise over your face and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then wipe it off and rinse with cool water. Your face will feel clean and smooth.

Yogurt (요구르트)
You don’t have to go to a spa to give your face a quick assist:
• To cleanse your skin and tighten the pores, slather some plain yogurt on your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes.
• For a revitalizing facial mask, mix 1 teaspoon plain yogurt with the juice from 1/4 slice of orange, some of the orange pulp, and 1 teaspoon aloe. Leave the mixture on your face for at least five minutes before rinsing it off.

Mustard (겨자)
Pat your face with mild yellow mustard for a bracing facial that will soothe and stimulate your skin. Try it on a small test area first to make sure it will not be irritating.
Ermm...for me I would not recommend it! Wouldn't it be a whole lot spicier on your face if you do that?!

Lemon (레몬)
Create a facial that both exfoliates and moisturizes by mixing the juice from 1 lemon with ¼ cup olive oil or sweet almond oil.

Egg (달걀)
Who has time or money to spend at the local day spa, paying someone to tell you how awful your skin looks? For a little pampering, head to the refrigerator and grab an egg. If you have dry skin that needs moisturizing, separate the egg and beat the yolk. Oily skin takes the egg white, to which a bit of lemon or honey can be added. For normal skin, use the entire egg. Apply the beaten egg, relax and wait 30 minutes, then rinse. You’ll love your new fresh face.

Personally I've tried the egg white mask, your skin do feels instantly smooth & fresh!

K-drama Bingo

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
Basically over these past few years, maybe around 7 years to be exact; it can be easily said that I've watched over 100+ Korean Dramas of my liking. Usually I'm not that picky-of-a-person on dramas I watched. Any genre is fine with me as long as I find the story line amusing or interest me in some way. Personally, I would only skip those Loooong-winded-historical-drama (watching those just makes me feels "huskier"..lol..maybe that's how they should sound in the past! ^O^).

Thinking of starting your K-drama journey? Nowadays there's tonnes of dramas to choose from various Korean broadcasting station; KBS, SBS, MBC, OCN, tvN to name a few. With 3 of the top & largest television network in Korea [situated around Yeouido South Korea] :
KBS - Korean Broadcasting System (한국방송공사) -- han-guk-bang-song-kong-sa
MBC - Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (문화방송주식회사) -- mun-hwa-bang-song-chu-sik-hwi-sa
SBS - Seoul Broadcasting System (에스비에스 / 서울방송그룹) -- ee-su-bi-ee-su/so-ul-bang-song-gu-rup

Posted by Carrie Ang 2 comments Links to this post
If you’re a visitor to Korea (or a non-resident) and are buying goods above 30,000 won at a tax refund eligible outlet, you may claim for tax refund upon your departure. There are two companies who handle tax refund in Korea; namely Global Blue (blue) and Tax Free Korea (red). Look out for the blue/red signs at the store front before you shop.

Nichkhun. Advertisers were not disturbed. Why?

With a sigh of relieve after this was reported. Alls well, and don't judge a person negatively just based on a single foolish mistake that had been done. Hope to see him up again! Hwaiting! =)

It was reported that:

Nichkhun has taken a time off since July as he got involved in a DUI accident. Once a star is exposed to public criticism, first and foremost, that start is cut off from commercial advertisements. However, that did not happen to Nichkhun who gets the biggest amount of commercial advertising deals among 2PM members. That is a special case.

Aussie here I come

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
Without realising...how time flies...It has been 5 months since I came back from my backpack trip from Seoul Korea! And in two weeks time, I'll be flying again for my second oversea trip this year. This time.... Australia! Owhhh...love this feeling~~~ ㅎㅁㅎ

Well, nope..I'm not that rich. This trip was totally sponsored by my aunt who is staying there. So my flight & accommodation and transportation will be well covered during my 1.5 weeks stay there. Not to mention the food there! I misses the big portion FISH & CHIPS. It's been nearly 12 years since last I've been there; and I'm coming back soon! Feels like home..Yay! =)

네! 맞아요.. You read it right, Korean SMSes!! Bet most of us - "Non-Koreans"; would have the same thoughts on these...How Koreans send their SMSes or to be precise what does a certain abbreviation stands for. Bet most of the times our SMSes will look like these: LOL, LMAO, hehe, haha, BRB, TTYL, etc....
Recently, I got to learn more on this topic & had a rapid test though TTMIK. Thanks Guys! ^^

Let's go guys..가자! Learn some EMOTIONS! =)

We often find laughter the most in our SMSes (haha, hehe, keke, etc..), it's no different here as well. Notice this ㅋㅋㅋ before?!

아저씨 Ajosshi (feat. J Rabbit) Kim Jin Pyo Lyrics English Translation

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
My first try into translating a Korean song
Hope you enjoy the song, as it's about a young girl's crush for a way elder guy! =)
A super cute song (>^.^<)
But for most of the rap part, it's using a symbolic term to emphasis on the age difference between a young girl and an older man.

Click here for the Korean Hangul Lyrics --> Hangul Lyrics

English Translation Lyrics

Sir, that feels weird, as I'm not sure what's wrong with my heart
My heart is beating fast as I'm thinking about it again
Sir, I love you but could you wait for awhile
As that's just some time that you are not rushing for

How do you want me to say so that you could understand me
How many times do I have to say it
The age difference between you & me is like Suzhou & milk of 42
When I'm asking for "Haejangguk", you may think of it as Apple pie (symbolize the difference maturity thinking as the age gap are big. *Haejangguk is a Korean Hangover soup*)
You are like a little child thru a normal guys eyes
One got to be of the same age
You are still very young, pretty girl wake up
Now for god's sake, try to control yourself

Sir, what should I do? If it can't be done this way
This flustered feeling is not what I'm looking for
Sir, why can't it be so? Please re-consider again
Is it so wrong that I'm still a kid

I don't have Tteokbokki nor popcorn
I don't go for Romantic movies, but Billards
Think about it, what the hell would you do with me
What would you tell others
Should we talk about stocks? Or Baseball? Or cars?
Girls Generation? Yeah!! This is what I do
What surprise me the most is your mom
I still think this is a mistake

Maybe you think that
But I'm not the prince charming that you are looking for
I'm not even a white horse nor the Saint of time
Please let's just stop right here
Oh mama this is probably just drama
Be patient & one day you will understand me
I also want to tell it and meet it
Probably I shouldn't think about it

Repeat **
When You're studying ABC, I'm already with my PC assembling
In fact, I know that others don't do that
You're my little girl & my all
When you're in your DoReMi lesson, I've already graduated from Czerny lesson
In fact, I know that others don't do that
You are just a girl & also just a little kid to me

I too am not sure why am I acting this way
But now, please open your mind to a more sincere me

Repeat *
Well that's just ridiculous
(Sir) Can't Can't
(My feelings) This is so ridiculous
No, please snap out of this
I won't do this (Sir)

Here for the term "Ajosshi" I'm using a more polite term as "Sir". Normally Koreans relate the term to an elder guy or what we known as "Uncle".

아저씨 (Ajosshi) = Uncle / Sir
떡볶이 (Tteokbokki) = Korean Rice cake
해장국 (Haejangguk) = Korean Hangover Soup
소녀시대 (SoNyoShiDae) = SNSD / Girls Generation
애플파이 (Aepeulpai) = Apple Pie
왕자님 (Wangjanim) = Prince

So guys! What's your view/thought on a 아저씨??
Could it be like this you are thinking about?
Or this?
Or simply this? My fav "immature" 아저씨.  =)
Ji Won 아저씨!!ㅎㅎㅎㅎ...ㅋㅋㅋ  ^^

Super easy way to add a Korean vocab with Direct English translation

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
여러분 안녕하세요! Hello Everyone!

Just have the sudden urge to practice on my Hangul again. Well I may not be perfect as I've just started learning to read the language earlier this year around April. And being a full time staff I don't really have the time to really focus on studying as I'm self-taught. ^^

So just a few hours (maybe 1-2 hours or so) per week for me to learn Hangul is all it takes for me. But for those who wanted to learn the language but don't have the time..don't fret about it. As a person's "Interest" can be a very important weapon for learning.

Ohya, being of Chinese descendant does gives you an added advantage to grasp the Korean language better as most of the Korean words have similar pronunciation as the Chinese Characters.Well, being a Native English speaker it's not bad as well as we also has its ups as some of the Korean words are direct translation of the English words itself!!

Would love to share a few Vocab I've learned throughout these months....Well I may not be of the best out there but some simple ones are still pretty fresh in my mind. Here are some Direct-English translation words for the readers out there. ^^

Korean Vocab of the day
아이스크림 (a-ee-su-k'e-rim) = Ice-Cream
오토바이 (o-tto-ba-ee) = Motorbike
바나나 (ba-na-na) = Banana
치킨 (chi-k'in) = Chicken (Well this is not the right word thou.. as Koreans usually refer 치킨 to fried chicken or something that's already "eatable" *my bad for the Manglish used here* ^^) Life chicken is called 닭 (dalg)
카메라 (k'a-me-ra) = Camera
립스틱 (lip-su-tik) = Lipstick
히터 (hi-tto) = Heater
핸드폰 (haen-du-pun) = Handphone is what Koreans called a Mobile phone (same goes for Malaysians as well)
축구 (chu-gu) = Soccer
차 (cha) = Car [To be precise 차 is car & 자동차 (cha-dong-cha) is Auto-mobile] so both can be used
팀 (tim) = Team

Happy Learning Guys!~♥  =)

제이레빗 (J Rabbit) New Indie group

Posted by Carrie Ang 0 comments Links to this post
As K-POP is so popular in Asia and now in pretty much all around the world, there are other good Korean singers not just constraint from JYP, SM, YG Entertainment groups. I’d like to introduce this new Indie Group, J Rabbit, 제이레빗 and share their music with you.

Well, actually they are not entirely a new group; but I just recently stumble across their songs & immediately been sucked into their music with just her lovely soothing voice.
J Rabbits
J Rabbit began uploading videos to YouTube as one of the units in friendz.net in November 2010. A few digital singles were released, and then came first full-length album It’s Spring which soon went out of print. The two girls and friendz.net have since gained even more popularity, and now they’re back with second full-length album Looking Around.

WHO is J Rabbit 제이레빗???
J Rabbit is women duo group - One girl is playing all the instruments while the other one sings **BTW her voice is amazing!**  In their album, it’s not all about love songs, but are mainly about life. The timbre of the vocal is so clean, refreshing and amazing. The song itself is beautiful and her vocal makes the whole album ever so special.

Let me introduce all to their latest featured song entitled "Ahjussi 아저씨" that they are featured in with Kim Jin Pyo. Also my fav!
A way too cute song to be true!!  =)

So a YAY or a NAY for them? Definitely a YAY from me! Way to go girls!!

JYP Entertainment decorates your first weekend of August.

To express the gratitude for the fans, for the first time ever JYP Entertainment opens up the very first ‘FAN’s Day’.

This event, which is held at Platoon Kunsthalle, contains various events that fans could directly see, listen to, and feel with fan art exhibition, artist costume exhibition, artist photo & video gallery, as well as cover dance contest and surprise events.

On August 4th, JYP artist teams are gathering on stage in front of the fans in 2 years.
The whole JYP artists (J.Y. Park, Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, miss A, JOO, San E, JJ Project) are going to perform on stage at ‘2012 JYP Nation Concert’.

The first JYP Nation concert held in 2010 brought a lot of issues. There would be extraordinary performances of JOO and San E, who is standing in front of the fans in 2 years time, as well as the reunion of 2AM and JYP teams, addition of the hidden card JJ Project, and Jang Woo Young who started the solo performance. With all this various issues, the concert will be having rather special stages in all.

As the whole JYP Artists are participating in various events such as FAN’s Day and JYP Nation concert this first weekend of August, it is said that the expectation of the fans are rising to its maximum.

Here are some highlights from the event! =)
